Dr. Pedro J. Diaz Payno

FOUNDER AND PRESIDENT
THE SPANISH SOCIETY OF REGENERATIVE MEDICINE AND TISSUE ENGINEERING (SEMIT)

Dr. Pedro J. Díaz-Payno is a tissue engineering specialist with over a decade of experience in biomaterials, bioprinting, and regenerative medicine. In 2023, Pedro joined IMDEA Materials Institute (Madrid, Spain) as a Marie Skłodowska-Curie Postdoctoral Fellow, where he led the RECoil3D project, focused on advanced extracellular matrix (ECM)
scaffold design for cartilage regeneration. In 2025, he was awarded a 2025 a Ramón y Cajal Fellowship to lead his group at IMDEA Materials.

Prior to that, he worked as Scientific Advisor at Rovi Pharmaceutical Laboratories, supporting the marketing team; and as postdoctoral researcher within the RegMed4D consortium under Profs. Amir Zadpoor (TU Delft) and Gerjo van Osch (Erasmus Medical Centre) in the Netherlands, advancing 4D bioprinting technologies.

Pedro received his PhD in Biomedical Engineering from Trinity College Dublin (Ireland), funded by the Irish Research Councils prestigious Government of Ireland PhD Scholarship. His doctoral work on scaffold development for osteochondral tissue engineering resulted in several high-impact publications and a patent. In 2024, Pedro founded and became the President of SEMIT, the Spanish Society for Tissue Engineering and Regenerative Medicine, with the aims of advancing these fields at national and international level.
